A bit about me
I’m Amy, a freelance writer turning the work of purpose-led brands and charities into words that make people sit up and notice.
After studying English Literature at the University of Exeter, I discovered that my true passion was writing, not just reading. I graduated with the goal of crafting words that could make a positive impact in the world.
I’ve spent my freelance life writing for brands I genuinely love - Bloom & Wild, Barbour, Finisterre, Six by Nico, Somewhere by Nico - plus some unexpected gems along the way. I’m also a Contributing Editor at the female-led indie magazine Pier Journal, where I explore stories highlighting Dorset’s vibrant creative culture.
Before I went self-employed, I mastered the copywriting ropes at LUSH back in 2016, writing copy and content which reflected their strong ethical values.
I later joined CALM (Campaign Against Living Miserably), where I helped shape support content, interviewed ambassadors, worked as newsletter lead, and helped write content for award-winning campaigns like The Last Photo and Stay - work that started real conversations about mental health.
Along the way, I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with some kickass organisations like Fashion Revolution, The Coffee Foundation, The Wildlife Trust, Eden Project, The Vegan Society and more.
What I’m about
I care deeply about writing that feels real. I like words with a backbone. People with opinions. The copy that makes people think differently.
Forget fluff, I’m interested in the stuff that stops people scrolling because it feels human, empathetic, irreverent, and sometimes even a bit weird.
I’m drawn to stories that get to the heart of people’s experiences. At CALM, this meant having honest, sensitive conversations about topics like suicide, addiction, and anxiety, and finding the words that could shine a light on often-hidden struggles.
I’ve interviewed everyone from people with lived experience to communities making a difference, as well as musicians like Foals, Yard Act, and Tom Grennan, TV personalities such as Shirley Ballas and Jamie Laing, and even sports legends like Ricky Hatton - always aiming to uncover authentic, human stories that resonate.
It’s this approach that has helped my writing not just inform, but inspire action - driving charity donations, sparking important discussions, and helping campaigns reach people who need support most.
How I work
No ego. No mystery. Just clear communication, genuine curiosity, and a friendly face on the other side of your emails. I ask questions, think deeply, meet deadlines, and make things feel effortless - because they should be.
I’m equally at home interviewing for video, leading tone of voice workshops, or diving into the details: crafting campaign lines, copy, impact reports, editorial pieces, and more.
I’ve collaborated with big teams, solo start-ups, and everything in between. You can be confident I’ll put the same care and thought into every project I work on.
When I’m not writing
You’ll usually find me outdoors: hiking coastal paths, gravel biking down lanes that probably weren’t meant for bikes, or wild camping somewhere with a view of the stars.
I’m obsessed with the link between nature and wellbeing, and I run plant-based seasonal supper clubs in Dorset - an excuse to feed people, talk food, and celebrate whatever the season brings.
That curiosity for the natural world, its rhythm and its honesty, probably bleeds into how I write. I like to think it keeps things grounded.
